# Difference between dc motor and ac motor

In this post we will discuss about the construction and working difference between DC motor and AC motor. In this article we will discuss in detail the difference between AC and DC motor.

## Difference between DC motor and AC motor

### AC motor

1. In dc motor the current is maintaining same direction or not changeable. Because its supply is 0HZ.
In ac motor the direction of motor change or reversing in every half cycle. About hundred time when its supply is 50HZ.
2. In DC motor, the input power of motor is dc. It means direct current. Simply we can say that dc motor is take dc power.
In AC motor, the input power of motor is AC (alternating current).
3. DC motor is convert dc electrical power into mechanical power in the basis of faraday law of electromagnetic induction.
AC motor is convert AC electrical power into mechanical power or it give rotation of shaft.
4. In this type motor , commutator are also used for convert AC power into DC power.
Commutator is a device which takes AC power and gives output DC power.
In this type motor , commutator are does not used.
5. In this motor supply voltage is always being constant.
In this type motor supply voltage is varies with change in load.
6. In this type of motor the conversion/inversion of quantities (commutation) is required.
In this type of motor the conversion /inversion of quantities (commutation) is required.
7. In dc motor input supply required both stator and rotor.  Supply is given through carbon brush.
In AC motor input supply required only stator not rotor. It is also measure difference between DC motor and AC motor.
8. DC motor is required for small load as like small industries where supply voltage is less.
AC motor is required for small and heavy both type load application. In this type motor supply voltage also high

9. In dc motor does not required power factor improvement device because its power factor always being constant. DC motor have unity power factor which cause its does not required power factor improvement device.
In this type motor required power factor improvement device because it have lagging and leading power factor which required improving.  In this type of motor power factor improvement device is used.
10. Rectifier is also use for converting AC power into DC power because its required DC power.
Rectifier is not use in AC motor
