Difference between Hard and Soft Magnetic materials

In this article we will learn about the difference between hard and soft magnetic materials. We will know about the hard magnetic materials and soft magnetic working and application.

Difference between Hard and Soft Magnetic Materials.

1.       Materials which retain their magnetism and are difficult to demagnetize are called hard magnetic materials. Soft magnetic materials are easy to magnetize and demagnetize.
2.       They have large hysteresis loss due to large hysteresis loop area. They have low hysteresis loss due to small hysteresis area.
3.       Its Susceptibility and permeability are low. It’s susceptibility and permeability are high.
4.       Its Coercively and retentively values are large. Its Coercively and retentively values are less.
5.       Magnetic energy stored is high.

These are also difference between hard and soft magnetic materials.

Since they have low retentively and coercively, they are not used for making permanent magnets.
6.       Hard magnetic material retains their magnetism even after the removal of the applied magnetic field. Hence these materials are used for making permanent magnets. Soft magnetic materials are used for making temporary magnets. The domain wall movement is easy. Hence they are easy to magnetize.  this is measure difference between hard and soft magnetic materials.
7.       They possess high value of BH product. Magnetic energy stored is less.
8.       These eddy current loss is high it’s eddy current loss is less because of high resistivity.

Hence these are difference between hard and soft magnetic materials. If you will find any incorrect in above article you must comment below in comment box.
